MAT3 is building a browser-first way to understand public transport journeys across East Africa. The work starts with a simple question: how can someone find a useful route without having to guess what the information means?

Our mission
We want everyday route information to be easier to find, compare and understand. That means putting the commuter's task first and keeping the language clear.
MAT3 Web is designed for anonymous route discovery. An account, map or photograph should never stand between someone and the route information that is available.
How we approach the work
Public transport information can change and can be incomplete. MAT3 will show where information came from, when it was updated and whether it is live, stale, estimated, scheduled or unavailable. When a detail cannot be supported, we leave it out or say that it is unavailable.
The browser platform consumes transport information from a separately operated MAT3 service. It does not run a transport database, driver tracking or operator tools.
What useful impact looks like
For a commuter, useful information begins with being able to enter an origin and destination, compare the routes that are actually available, understand stages and transfers, and share a route with someone else.
For transport and public-sector partners, the starting point is equally practical: clear, sourced passenger information and well-defined data responsibilities. We will report outcomes only when they can be evidenced.
